Risk Based Inspection (RBI)

The key element of Risk Based Inspection is determining the inspection regime based on the expected levels of degradation and the risks of failure. RBI is a methodology that is used for determining in what way the integrity of an installation changes and in what way we will have to deal with those changes. 

The procedures required depend on the risk of failure that has emerged or will emerge in case no  action is undertaken. The most important concerns are of course the consequences for safety and environment. Economic consequences are also very important.

The importance and benefits of RBI

RBI identifies degradation levels and analyses their effect on the integrity of an asset. For example, by performing better, more extensive or more frequent inspections, it is possible to secure the integrity of an asset for a longer period of time and avoid the need for an expensive maintenance stop. This can also happen in reverse: In what way could the maintenance parameters be adjusted to guarantee that a specific operating period of an installation or asset will be guaranteed. Therefore, it is important to  realise that RBI provides responsible solutions.


Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM)

RCM is a unique method for determining a safe minimum of  maintenance activities that are required to guarantee the proper functioning of technical systems. It is not the objective of RCM to prevent failures, but rather to keep the effects of such failures at an agreed acceptable level, based on the objectives of the company . An important element is a risk matrix.

A complete RCM analysis will provide answers to seven questions related to the installation that is examined.

Importance and benefits of RCM

When applied correctly, RCM results in considerable improvements in the effectiveness of maintenance in only a short period of time. Our RCM specialist is able to play an important role as RCM facilitator, for example by identifying those assets that will benefit most from RCM; by determining the way in which RCM can be applied to those assets; by determining who should perform the analysis, when and where the analysis should be performed, by monitoring decisions and by ensuring that everybody is well- prepared by conducting regular cross-functional team meetings in order to create the required level of support within the company, and ensuring the contribution of  maintenance and production employees in the RCM process.
